After a couple of rounds, talks between the AIADMK and its allies, particularly the Left parties, have come to a halt, raising questions about the continuance of the alliance that fought the April 13 Assembly elections together.
The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazagam (DMDK), Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and Puthiya Tamizhagam have not received any invitation so far from the AIADMK leadership for seats-sharing talks for local body polls.
As per the earlier proposal, leaders of the CPI and the CPI (M) on Tuesday were slated to meet the AIADMK team, comprising Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam, Agriculture Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan and Electricity Minister R. Viswanathan. They did not receive any call from the AIADMK. “We do not know what is happening. We are ready for a discussion to amicably settle the issue. But, we have not been invited for talks,” a senior CPI (M) leader said. The CPI (M) was upset after Ms. Jayalalithaa released the list of candidates for all the mayoral posts, 120 municipalities and 131 town panchayats even while talks between the parties were on.
CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan had written to Ms. Jayalalithaa urging her to hold back the lists of candidates.
Jayalalithaa releases sixth list
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Ms. Jayalalithaa released the sixth list containing candidates for various town panchayats.
No communication
“We are waiting for the issue of notification for the polls to the local bodies,” said DMDK leader Panruti S. Ramachandran.
Asked if his party had received any communication from the AIADMK, he replied in the negative.
He said that his party too had not made any move so far.
