The Pondy Bazaar police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter who was employed in the house of actor Bhanupriya on charges of breach of trust and theft.

On Thursday, actor Bhanupriya’s brother Gopalakrishnan lodged a complaint with the Pondy Bazaar police, urging that criminal action be taken against the domestic aide and her mother for allegedly stealing jewellery and valuables from the house.

The family had engaged a girl from Andhra Pradesh as domestic help since February last year. According to the complainant, the girl had stolen valuables from the house and passed them on to her parents whenever they visited.

The family recently questioned the girl after noticing that valuables and cash were missing. Her mother had preferred a complaint with the Samalkot police, alleging that her daughter was being harassed at the actor’s residence.

On January 25, the Andhra Pradesh police had lodged her in a special home in Kellys.

The police have now arrested the mother and daughter. The mother was lodged in the Central Prison.
