The State government will collect a penalty from those who have failed to apply for regularisation of plots before the original deadline set by the government.

According to a circular by the Commissioner of Municipal Administration, a penalty of 10% of regularisation charges will be collected for a period of six months from the deadline of November 3.

Plot owners will have to pay a penalty of 25% for regularisation during a period of six to twelve months from the original deadline.

Those who apply for regularisation of plots after 12 months will have to pay a penalty of 50% of the regularisation charges.

More than ₹500 crore has been collected towards regularisation charges, development charges and scrutiny fee, under this scheme.

Open-ended scheme

The scheme was made open-ended by prescribing a penalty for latecomers.

The government introduced the scheme on May 4, 2017, to regularise sold plots in unapproved layouts made prior to October 20, 2016. The scheme was modified, taking into account public grievances and the deadline was extended upto November 3. It was observed that out of the total identified unapproved layouts, about 25% of the plots had been granted in-principle clearance.

Applications have increased in the past few days owing to advertisements and rising awareness about the benefits of the scheme.

However, many of the applicants are not completing the procedure due to individual financial constraints, the circular said.
