Student commits suicide

Dejected over his results in the SSLC examination for the second consecutive year, a 16-year-old boy committed suicide in Tirusulam.

The body was found floating in a lake formed in an abandoned quarry on Sunday.

Pallavaram police said Ilayaraja was a resident of Iluppai Thoppu Street and his father Lakshmanan was working in a stone quarry.

Ilayaraja, a student of a government school in Cantonment Pallavaram, had appeared for the SSLC examination last year and had failed in English, Mathematics and Science.

He attended a private tutorial and appeared for the X class examination this year too as a private student.

He managed to pass in Mathematics and Science, but failed in English again.

He was reportedly chided by his close relatives after the results were announced on Friday. He left home the same evening and did not return home. A boy missing case was registered at Pallavaram police station.

The body of a boy was found floating on “Ayyar Kuttai,” a lake formed in an abandoned quarry and his parents confirmed that it was Ilayaraja's.

After a post mortem at Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, the body was handed over to his relatives.

Police said the body was decomposed and suspect the boy to have committed on Friday evening itself, soon after leaving his home.
