Crime beat: Students attack policemen

A group of students from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College Hostel assaulted a police inspector and a constable on Millers Road in Purasawalkam on Sunday.

Govindarajan, the inspector, had tried to control an unruly group of 12 persons who were allegedly in an inebriated condition. Following an altercation, the students including Manikandan and Gopi reportedly assaulted a constable Parthasarathy and the inspector.

As the police took the two students to the Kilpauk Police Station for enquiry, a group of 50 students staged a protest. The students were warned and let off after hostel authorities held discussions with the police.

Suspected murder

Thiruvottiyur police have registered a case of suspected death of a 28-year-old man in Kalyani Chetti Street in their limits. Madan, a painter and a fisherman, was found dead with his head smashed with a rock near a drain pipe in his mother-in-law's house on Sunday.

Drowns in pond

A 29-year-old man who was drunk drowned in a pond near his residence. S. Vadivelu of Mada Street, Narayanapuram, had jumped into the lake for a dip on Saturday. When he did not return, his wife Adhilakshmi went in search of him and found that he had drowned. Vadivelu's body was retrieved.

Accident victim dies

A 29-year-old man who was seriously injured when his two-wheeler was hit by a motorcycle from behind on the GST Road-Cement Road junction, died on Saturday 10 days after the accident.

The accident occurred on March 1. The victim, G. Rajesh of SIDCO Nagar, Villivakkam, was admitted to the Sri Ramachandra Hospital, Porur. He died on Saturday.
