CPI(M) demands security for party leaders

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - CHENNAI:

CPI(M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Saturday urged the State government to provide police protection to party leaders and farmers in Theivaseyalpuram and Pottaloorani in Thoothukudi district.

In a statement here, he said that the Communist leaders and farmers were facing attacks as they had been fighting a gang that had grabbed 915 acres of land by forging documents in 2008.

“On Saturday, a gang attacked the party’s local unit secretary, K. Perumal, after throwing chilli power on his eyes. He has been admitted to hospital with severe injuries,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

Even though local anti-social elements openly threatened the CPI(M) leaders, including State secretariat member K. Kanagaraj and district secretary K.S Arjunan at a public meeting, the police remained mute spectators without taking any action.
