Court seeks report on conditions in Government Siddha hospital

September 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Monday initiated suo motu proceedings over the conditions in Arignar Anna Government Siddha Hospital at Anna Nagar here and directed authorities to file a status report on the issue within four weeks.

While hearing a PIL plea filed by G. Devarajan, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam dismissed it, but initiated suo motu proceedings. The petitioner observed that the basic amenities were not being maintained properly. There was a scarcity of medicine in the hospital and referred to a protest organised by the students in November last year.

As there was no reply to his representation to the Chief Secretary and the Health Department over the issue, the petitioner moved the High Court with a PIL plea.

The bench posted the matter for October 12.
