Court frowns on running of dhobikana in Chennai residential area

November 17, 2013 08:02 am | Updated 08:02 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining a resident of TVK Nagar, Sembium, from running a dhobikana.

Justice K.K. Sasidharan passed the interim order on a writ petition by one T. William Moses. The petitioner said all the houses in his colony had been allotted by the TNHB. His neighbour, K. Chandrasekar, was running a dhobikana illegally and had installed borewells. He was using a chemical for washing the clothes which caused irritation in the eyes, besides rashes. The waste water was neither recycled nor let out properly.

Mr. Moses pointed out that the law prohibited the running of a dhobikana in a residential area.

The Judge posted the matter for December 13 for final disposal. There would be an order of interim injunction in the meantime, he said.
