A Congress functionary on Tuesday lodged a police complaint seeking action against the person who made a fake statement in the name of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.S. Alagiri stating that his party will be breaking ties with DMK.

In his complaint to the Commissioner of Police, S.K. Nawaz, claimed that on Monday, the Congress party office received a fabricated and false statement in the name of Mr. Alagiri stating that Tamil Nadu Congress Committee had taken a decision in consultation with former congress president Sonia Gandhi, to break its alliance with the DMK.

He claimed that the statement was issued with an evil design of creating rift among the alliance cadres on the eve of the counting day. He added that already complaints were filed in Chidambaram against one Vijayasundaram for circulating false news about the TNCC president and party media department chairman A. Gopanna through messaging platforms.

Hence he suspected the same person, due to instigation by rival parties, to behind the fake statement, he added.
