Psycho-oncologists make a huge difference during the treatment of cancer and it is essential to have them, Tamil Nadu Medical and Paediatric Oncologist Society president K. Kalaiselvi said on Saturday.
Speaking at the “Cancer conference on real world evidence in Oncology”, she said a psycho-oncologist makes the patient understand the disease better and comply better.
The conference, organised by the Collaborative Medical Oncology Group, saw medical professionals sharing the data of a study done at 28 cancer centres in various States, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, and discussed ways of using the data for a host of purposes, from cancer prevention to palliation.
V. Shanta, chairperson of Cancer Institute, Adyar, said the real world evidence of oncology should be captured from large well-established existing institutions where there is a data collection process.
