The enormous success of the recently staged play based on legendary Tamil work Ponniyin Selvan seems to have opened a new path for Tamil theatre.
Music director Karthik Raja, elder son of Ilayaraja, is all set to venture into theatre now. He has written the script for a play titled ‘Pattanathil Bhootham’ and will also score music for it.
The drama, which is being produced by Karthik Raja’s home banner Absolute Magic, will feature Nasser, his son Luthfudeen Basha, Prasanna, and Nandini Ravindran and singers Rahul Nambiar, Chinmayi and Harish, among others.
“The story on the likes of ‘Allaudinum Arupudha Vilakkum’ is a play for children and I hope the audience will like it,” says the composer of ‘Ullasam’ and ‘Ullam Kollai Poguthey.’
“Having seen the success of stage plays in foreign nations, where stories like Lion King made a high record despite being produced as a film,” he says.
He thanks actor Nasser for his support in getting the project going.
“This play consists of a mixture of suspense, thrill, humour and entertainment and, for the first time, Dolby music system is being used,” says Karthik Raja.
“After Chennai, the play will reach out to audiences in other cities, he adds. Karthik Raja’s cousin Vasuki Bhaskar will take care of costumes. Other members of his family too are helping Karthik in this venture.
The drama will be staged at the Music Academy here on September 18, 19 and 20.
