The Kauvery Hospital has successfully performed a complex kidney transplant surgery on a seven-year-old boy. The patient, who was diagnosed with renal failure at birth, is doing fine after the surgery.

Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director, Kauvery Hospitals, said Pritish was born with complications in the kidneys and suffered from frequent urinary infections due to back flow from the urinary bladder. This created a situation where the kidneys had to be removed. While his father Jyothy Prakash came forward to donate a kidney, the transplantation looked complex because the boy was extremely underweight for his age and needed to be put on dialysis.

A team of specialist doctors planned to go for multiple surgeries, including the transplant, at one go and successfully completed them. Dr. Selvaraj said the success of the transplant could be seen in the boy gaining weight and the transplanted kidneys working well.
