Commuters’ woes at LIC bus stop

Commuters boarding Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) route numbers from Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) bus stop on Anna Salai, located after the intersection of Anna Salai, Club House Road and Binny Road, have requested MTC to issue a directive to the crew of of route numbers 1B (Tambaram – Thiruvottiyur), 1G (Velachery – Thiruvottiyur) and B18 (Tambaram – Korukkupet) to halt at the designated stopping point.

At present, commuters at the LIC bus stop proceeding towards Thiruvottiyur are forced to wait for 1A. The route number plies between Thiruvanmiyur and Thiruvottiyur bus terminus. Though, buses going towards Thiruvottiyur from Tambaram, Thiruvanmiyur and Velachery bus terminuses have good frequency, commuters are forced to wait till the route numbers arrive from Thiruvanmiyur bus terminus. The same situation prevails at the Mount Road Post Office bus stop.

At present, route numbers 21 (Mandavelli – Broadway), 1A, A1 (Thiruvanmiyur – Central), and 5C (Taramani – Broadway) halt at the stop. Other route numbers, 1B, 1G, 88C (Kundrathur – Broadway) and 18D (Keezhkattalai – Broadway) don’t halt. Though these route numbers and other route numbers proceeding towards Broadway and other areas in North Chennai are frequent, commuters are forced to wait till the route numbers from Taramani, Mandavelli and Thiruvanmiyur bus terminuses arrive. “Alighting from the route numbers at Mount Road Post Office, Simpson, and Pallavan Salai bus stops is an ordeal,” says S. Sagaya Mary, a commuter.

A majority of commuters board buses at the Simpson bus stop. “To avoid getting delayed, I board the route numbers at Simpson bus stop, where all the route numbers halt,” says S. Vinod, a commuter. MTC officials have promised to look into the matter.
