City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Thursday reviewed the progress of investigation into the sexual assault on the 11-year-old in Ayanavaram.

On Tuesday, the city police arrested 17 persons including lift operators, security guards and other staff of a private service firm on charges of sexually assaulting the girl in an apartment complex for over six months.

The Ayanavaram police have registered a case against them under the provisions of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Mr. Viswanathan reviewed the progress with top officials and issued instructions to complete the investigation without any delay and submit the final report to the court expeditiously.

Meanwhile, staff from the Child Welfare Committee met the victim’s parents to determine the care and protection needs of the child, including medical needs and counselling.
