A day ahead of Electricity Minister P. Thangamani’s visit to New Delhi to seek supply of coal from the Centre for power generation, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami chaired a meeting of Ministers and senior officers at the Secretariat here on Monday to review the situation in the State.
Tangedco Managing Director Vikram Kapur apprised the participants at the meeting of the coal stock in various thermal power stations and the minimum supply of coal that is needed immediately, sources said.
Mr. Thangamani would be visiting Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Power Minister R.K. Singh in Delhi on Tuesday to flag the concerns of the State with regard to supply of coal.
“During the review meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the stock available at present and also the stock that is needed immediately. He also suggested the steps to be taken to ensure 15 days stock of coal,” said a source, who was part of the meeting.
Hopeful of solution
Since the Chief Minister has already written to the Prime Minister, the government was hopeful of resolving the issue at the earliest and ensure smooth supply of coal.
“We are taking all efforts and we are hopeful of resolving the issue soon,” he also said.
Besides Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Electricity Minister P. Thangamani, senior Ministers Dindigul C. Sreenivasan, D. Jayakumar, K.P. Anbalagan, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, Finance Secretary K. Shanmugam and Energy Secretary Md. Nasimuddin were present at the meeting.
