The civic body on Saturday sealed 20 shops that were operating without trade licences, in north Chennai.
The Chennai Corporation will conduct door-to-door verification to identify traders without trade licences in various localities of the city.
The civic body will send legal notices to all the unregulated traders. Officials of the civic body will seal buildings of traders who fail to get the licence.
In addition to focussing on data collected from agencies such as the commercial taxes department, the civic body has asked officials to visit neighbourhoods to screen trades carried out without licence.
More than 500 trades are permitted to operate in the city after obtaining licence from the Corporation.
Companies that reportedly pollute neighbourhoods were also screened for trade licence violations on Saturday.
A plastic shredding company on Vedandha Murugappan Salai, and a stainless steel products manufacturing company in K.M.A. Garden, both in Kodungaiyur, were found operating without trade licence.
A company manufacturing train doors in Arul Nagar, Kodungaiyur, 10 commercial buildings on North Avenue in ward no. 35, and an electronics shop on Tiruvottiyur High Road in ward no. 48 were also sealed. “The trades will start operating after obtaining licence,” said an official.
