Police on Tuesday went into a tizzy following an anonymous call threatening to blow up a multi-storey building in arterial Anna Salai that houses several corporate offices, but it turned out to be a hoax.

“Yes, there was a threat call to Temple Tower. But it turned out to be a hoax. We are trying to trace the call,” Chennai Police Commissioner J.K. Tripathy said.

Police also conducted a drill at major shopping malls in the city to check the preparedness of the security agencies to deal with emergency situations in the wake of the Delhi bomb blast.

Security checks were carried out at major malls like Spencer Plaza, Ampa Skywalk, Express Avenue, City Center and Alsa Mall, they said.

The city is already in stepped up security mode following the September 7 Delhi high court blast and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has reviewed the security situation with top bureaucrats and police officials.
