Efforts by the Mohammed Hussain Colony Welfare Association to remove encroachments on open space reservation (OSR) land in their colony in Kolathur bore fruit after the Chennai Corporation swung into action on Friday.

Local officials of the Corporation, in association with revenue and police officers, retrieved the land measuring 13,200 sq. ft. that had been occupied by encroachers for several years.

An official of the civic body said the property in Mohammed Hussain Colony, Kolathur, was designated OSR land, but some people had encroached on it by putting up a fence and building a house there.

Members of residents’ welfare associations in the locality have been petitioning the civic body to remove the encroachments from the land meant to be used as a park.
