Aavin is in the process of rebranding its icecream parlours as a place for families and children to hang out.

At least 18 of them across the city will soon have space for people to sit and enjoy icecreams and snacks.

Presently, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, which manages Aavin, is in the process of renovating its parlour in Anna Nagar.

A popular spot with families and youngsters, the Tower Park parlour will also have space for children to play. Parlours in Chepauk and Adyar too will be renovated in a similar fashion soon.

Sources at Aavin said 15 new parlours are to be constructed and space for five has already been identified. Construction of two of those parlours has begun.

One parlour on Arcot Road in Virugambakkam will have a drive-in facility. Apart from fresh milkshakes, the parlours will also sell icecream in 18 exotic flavours.

All the parlours will be located on the ground floor and Aavin’s 16 zonal offices will come up on the first floor, thus making it convenient for people to access the offices, said the official.

“We also are planning to train our staff on interacting with customers and being courteous when serving people,” the official said.

R. Geetha, a resident of Anna Nagar, said she visits the Tower Park parlour quite often.

“It is on the main road and easily accessible. If more space is created for people to sit and talk, it will be nice. Perhaps, Aavin could even think of introducing some snacks, play some soft music in the background, provide better lighting, some reading material and a TV, to attract more youngsters,” she said.
