Leprosy awareness rally in Old Washermenpet


The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine organised a leprosy awareness camp in Old Washermenpet last week, as part of National Leprosy Eradication programme.

Students of a private school in the locality were roped in for the awareness camp. As part of the programme, more than 300 students formed a human chain on G.A. Road.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the students also stressed the importance of removing the social stigma attached to leprosy patients.

D. Kanimozhi, medical officer, Deputy Director of Medical Services (Leprosy), Chennai, said leprosy was almost on the verge of elimination. She elaborated on the various welfare measures available to patients.
