Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) president S. Gopalakrishnan on Monday stressed the increased need for encouraging new entrepreneurs as the future of India’s Gross Domestic Product growth would be built on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Addressing the third edition of CII-Southern Region Emerging Entrepreneur Awards 2013, organised by the CII in association with The Hindu Business Line here on Monday, he called upon academic institutions, trade bodies and the State governments to play an important role in this regard. He mentioned the success of the Infosys experiment in Kerala in mentoring second-year engineering students to set up start-up firms.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan asked new entrepreneurs to take advantage of the emerging opportunities to build affordable products and services.
Handing over the awards to eight winners, he said the function should be organised at a national level so the success stories of entrepreneurs could be showcased in wider circles.
While appreciating the Korean firms for investing in Tamil Nadu and at the same time encouraging their ancillary units, Indian Overseas Bank chairman and managing director Narendra called upon the corporate sector to promote entrepreneurs at low- and middle-level as they were needed in India in large numbers.
The third edition received 220 nominations from four southern States. The awards were presented to Crust ‘n’ Crumb Food Ingredients (Kochi), Edu Sports (Bangalore), Groom India Salon & Spa (Chennai), Hatti Kaapi (Bangalore), Olive Lifesciences (Bangalore), Orange Sorting Machines (Coimbatore), Smaat India (Hyderabad) and Zerodha (Bangalore).
