A photo exhibition on the transport system in Madras/Chennai, from 1800 to 2014, will be organised on Friday, on the occasion of the 375th birth anniversary of the city.
The event will be held jointly by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Chennai Circle, and the Madras Heritage Lovers Forum.
G. Maheshwari, superintending archaeologist, ASI, Chennai Circle, said the photographs displayed would show Buckingham Canal, boats that plied the canal, trams, railway engines, ships, bullock carts, camel carts and so on.
Several old books on the history of Madras will also be on display.
A special postal cover designed by D.H. Rao, one of the members of the Madras Heritage Lovers Forum, will be released on the occasion.
ASI, Chennai Circle, is also organising an exhibition of old/rare photographs of Fort St. George. The exhibitions will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. on Friday, at Clive Hall, Clive’s Building, Fort St. George.
On Saturday, ASI and R. Revathi, Editor, YOCee, a website for children, will organise a walk for children inside Fort St. George. There will be some contests too.

Ms. Maheswari said ASI, Chennai Circle, had prepared a plan to restore Last House — a portion of which is in ruins — on Snob’s Alley at Fort St. George. Indian Institute of Technology-Madras will help with the restoration, she said.
