Come August 16 and 17, the Vidya Mandir Alumni Association will organise ‘Vidyavaibhavam’, a cultural festival featuring notable alumni, to raise funds for two of their initiatives.
M. Kannuswamy, president of the association, said the funds raised would go towards the group health insurance scheme which covers present and retired teachers and staff who have a minimum number of years as service.
“The insurance scheme covers around 200 staff and teachers now, and new teachers get added to the scheme each year,” he said. It will also be used to fund the education of students admitted under the Right to Education Act quota in the school, he said.
The Act mandates that unaided non-minority schools reserve 25 per cent seats at the entry level for students from disadvantaged groups.
The two-day festival will feature concerts by artistes such as Anusha Pradeep, Sharanya Krishnan, Rithvik Raja, K. Gayatri, Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Shashank, Sikkil Gurucharan and Anil Srinivasan, who are all alumni of the school. There will also be a talk by historian Sriram V., and plays by Evam, Stray Factory and Chennai Drama House. For further details, visit www.vmalumni.org.
