For residents of Puzhuthivakkam, travelling is an ordeal everyday. With poor connectivity of Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses, they find it difficult to reach different parts of the city. “At present, S13, a feeder service from Velachery to Guindy, runs through Maduvangarai, NGO Colony, Brindhavan Nagar, Kakkan Bridge to reach Guindy. It would be good if more such feeder services were operated from Puzhuthivakkam. I walk a distance of 2 km to come to Velachery Inner Ring Road from Puzhuthivakkam,” said S. Balaji, a commuter.
Development works are also adding to the woes. The roads connecting Puzhuthivakkam – Ullagaram Bus Terminus, Balaji Nagar Extension Main Road, Adambakkam and Balaji Nagar Main Road, Puzhuthivakkam, have been dug up for construction of stormwater drains by the Chennai Corporation, while water pipe lines are to be laid by Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. Owing to this, the MTC has cut off the bus services at Velachery Inner Ring Road.
“The works should be completed at the earliest to end the problems faced by commuters,” said R. Thomas, a resident .
The MTC operates 51P (High Court – Puzhuthivakkam Bus Stand), 118P (Puzhuthivakkam – Guduvanchery), M270 (Puzhuthivakkam – Ambattur Industrial Estate), and S554A (Puzhuthivakkam – Sriperumbdur).
Commuters also complain about the frequency of bus services operated towards Broadway, Guduvancherry, Ambattur and Sriperumbdur. “We have to go to Vanuvambedu or Brindavan Nagar to board buses to reach T. Nagar. More buses connecting various parts of the city should be introduced. An extension service of M9 [Puzhuthivakkam – T. Nagar], can be operated every hour,” they add.
