Deivasigamani Vinayagam is a doctor with a thriving practice in Triplicane, who is also making a splash as a writer. He has produced books in English and Tamil, explaining the intricate and complex medical concepts in a manner that is easy to follow for the layman. The topics he has covered include sports medicine, physiotherapy, rehab and alternative medicine. Among Dr. Vinayagam’s books that have satisfied the medical expert and the layman are Sports Medicine and Advanced Rehab , Treatment of Back and Neck Pain and The Seven Physical Laws to Being Healthy .

The simplicity of his writing style is made remarkable by the fact that Dr. Vinayagam has rubbed shoulders with the best in the medical world. He has served as chief in the Rehab Department at Naussa County Medical Centre, New York, and as principal, professor and head of AMS College of Physiotherapy and Paramedical Sciences, Chennai. Besides working in the United States for around 10 years, he has published many research papers in American medical and physical therapy journals.

Despite having lived a jet-setting life, Dr. Vinayagam values his roots, making it a point to visit his village – Kilvannakkampadi, near Tiruvannamalai – on September 10, his father’s remembrance day. On that day, he does some farm work and distributes welfare aids to the poor. Dr. Vinayagam hails from a family of poor farmers.

He still identifies himself with the downtrodden, often going out of his way to help them. In addition to the various posts he holds, Dr. Vinayagam finds time to serve the International Human Rights Medical Wing as its chairman.

Dr. Vinayagam also finds time to write poems and short stories. Trained in Carnatic vocal and instrumental music, he holds forth on music at soirees and practices it when he finds the time.
