Doctor honoured for work on paediatric eye care

In recognition of his work on paediatric eye care and other eye diseases, T. Nirmal Fredrick, Managing Director, Nirmal’s Eye Hospital, was conferred with Dr. Chetpet Balakrishnan Bhaskaran Oration Award, instituted by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Tamil Nadu State Branch (TNSB), according to a press release. The award was presented by V. Varadharajan, Convenor, IMA Nursing Home Board, and Ravishankar, Secretary, CGP, on the occasion of the 67th annual conference of IMA, TNSB, which was held in Coimbatore recently.

He delivered a speech on ‘Paediatric Ophthalmology for General Physicians,’ which highlighted why paediatric blindness is a big burden on society, how to detect them at an early stage and how eye disorders in children can be addressed by family physicians and paediatricians.

The release also stated that Dr. Nirmal Fredrick, an eye surgeon with 20 years of experience, is a specialist in phaco surgery and a consultant in glaucoma and paediatric ophthalmology.

He has a distinguished academic record, with Best Outgoing Student Award in MS from Madras Medical College; Professor Sathiavakesan Gold Medal in ophthalmology, TNOA COA Award for the best scientific exhibit; and Rotary Youth Leadership Award.

He was the alumni of LDP programme of All India Ophthalmic Association. He is a member of International Council of Ophthalmologist, U.K, and the secretary of Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association and AIOS.
