An argument over a game of carrom proved fatal for a 24-year-old man after his enraged friends stabbed him to death in Ennore on Monday night.
The police said the victim, R. Vimal Kumar, a resident of Kattukuppam in Ennore, was a fisherman. Kumar and his friends often played carrom in the locality. During a game on Monday, an argument broke out among the group.
He took the side of his partner in the game and the argument escalated into a melee.
Though Kumar reconciled with the others, they planned to kill him, and invited him for a drink on Monday night.
“Around 9 p.m. the group got together at Kamalammal Nagar near Kumar’s house and had a party. In the midst of that, some youth recalled the carrom incident and got into an argument with Kumar. They then assaulted him and stabbed him with a knife,” said an investigating officer.
The suspects then fled the scene. Some residents who spotted the youth lying in a pool of blood rushed him to Government Stanley Hospital. He failed to respond to treatment and died around midnight, sources said. The Ennore police have registered a case of murder and a search is on for the suspects.
