Party cadre death: key suspect held

Kaja Mohideen of Cuddalore was nabbed by a police team on Friday on charges of conspiring to kill Hindu Munnani functionary Suresh Kumar in Ambattur on June 18. The police said he also funded the hit.

Mohideen, in his mid 40s, is a key member of a Muslim outfit based in Tamil Nadu. Three people hacked Kumar to death outside the latter’s shop in Ambattur, last month. Mohideen, involved in an attempt-to-murder case in 2004, was picked up from his hideout in Cuddalore following information provided by two fellow conspirators, Nazeer (33) of Padi and Kutubuddin (27) of Cuddalore, who were apprehended earlier.

The vital clue was the bloodstained motorcycle which the assailants abandoned in Korattur after the murder. A CCTV grab of the trio on the motorcycle was obtained earlier.

Further probe revealed the motorcycle belonged to Satish Kumar of Korattur. “He had posted the vehicle for sale online, and Kutubuddin and another aide purchased it,” said an investigation officer.
