MGR’s 1965 classic Aayirathil Oruvan , directed by B.R. Panthulu and released earlier this year in a digitally-enhanced format, will soon be celebrating its silver jubilee as the film closes in on the 175 day of its theatrical run in a couple of screens in the city.
The silver jubilee celebrations promise to be a bonanza for MGR fans with a gala event to be organised at Kamarajar Arangam on Monday.
Leading actors and filmmakers such as Sarath Kumar, Sathyaraj, P. Vasu and Vikraman, who have declared themselves die-hard fans of Puratchi Thalaivar are slated to attend the event.
G. Chockalingam of Divya Films, who restored the film in a digital format, thanked all the active fan associations of MGR for making the silver jubilee possible.
In keeping with an old tradition of sorts, fans of MGR have ensured that the film has matched and even surpassed the record set by Sivaji Ganesan’s Karnan , which too was digitally restored a few years ago.
