The RTP had barely come to its conclusion when the chief-guest was requested to give his expert comments.

“Here is the answer to all those who think Carnatic music has no future. This young vidwan has captured all the essences and the nuisances of Shankarabharanam so well that it reminded me of the great GNB!” he exclaimed, not realising his faux pas.

“Nuances!” shouted an offended rasika from the audience.

“Yes these kids are the ‘ new answers ’ to the future of our country’s great culture!” announced the gentleman, and thus concluded his speech as everyone sat wondering what he just said, once again.

Why should ‘experts’ be asked to pitch in with such nuisances during concerts, I say…
