Change school syllabus on par with CBSE: Ramadoss

June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK leader S. Ramadoss on Saturday said the only way to make it possible for Tamil Nadu students to enter IITs and other higher professional institutions was to change the State Board syllabus on a par with the CBSE curriculum.

In a statement here, he urged the Tamil Nadu government to start special coaching classes for JEE for higher secondary students of all government schools.

Pointing out that only 33 students from the State Board had cleared the entrance examination for admission to IITs, Dr Ramadoss said it was a great disappointment as last year at least 65 students were selected.

While a significant number of students who had studied in the backward States such Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh had cleared the exam, only Tamil Nadu students have fared poorly, he said.

“A look at the performance within the State also makes it clear that State Board students have done very badly.  A total of 2,815 students from Tamil Nadu took the JEE. Of this 451 have qualified. As many as 1,045 CBSE students took the examinations out of which 418 have cleared. But out of the 1,770 State Board students who took the examination only 33 have been selected,” he said.
