To mark the National Day of Slovenia, the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation inaugurated a Slovenian Film Festival in the city on Monday, in association with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, New Delhi and Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia, Chennai.

The Slovenian film Last Supper was screened to inaugurate the festival, which is in its fourth year in association with ICAF.

Ambassador of Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, New Delhi, Darja Bavdaz Kuret, who inaugurated the festival, said that despite Slovenia being a fairly young country, its roots go back centuries.

“We are celebrating the 24th anniversary of our independence this year and films are an important way to establish the national identity which is steeped in culture,” she said.

Ms. Kuret also invited the south Indian film industry to visit Slovenia to shoot films there. The festival, which concludes on June 24, will see five Slovenian films being screened. Most of the films have won awards at various international film festivals.
