Cash seized from parking shed

Election officials on Friday seized Rs. 10.33 lakh from a parking shed belonging to a business man at Ayyampalayam in Karur district. An ambulance with a Government of India marking and about a dozen cash counting machines were also seized.

The raid triggered speculations that a huge amount of cash had been stashed at the shed for distribution to voters. The raid was conducted by a team at a godown of Anbunathan, a realtor said to be close to some AIADMK functionaries.

According to official sources, there was some suspicion about the ambulance, marked National Rural Health Mission, that was parked inside that shed. A few luxury cars and a tractor were also found inside the premises.

Consequent to the raid, a team from the Income Tax Department conducted inquiries at the premises . Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said, “As per the standard operating procedure, the district officials concerned have taken action. The Income Tax Department is investigating the case.”

Arasu Cable MD transferred

In another significant development, the Election Commission of India transferred the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV) J. Kumaragurubaran following allegations that the State PSU was disturbing the telecast of TV channels if they aired content against the ruling party.

It was alleged that TACTV officials were intentionally changing the frequency originally allotted to certain TV channels or disturbing their broadcast if they aired content inimical to the interests of the ruling party.
