Case against desalination plant dismissed

The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a writ petition filed against a tender notification issued by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) last year calling for international bids to establish a 150 MLD (million litres per day) sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant at Nemmeli on the East Coast Road here at a cost of ₹1,259.38 crore.

Justice T. Raja rejected the petition after accepting Advocate General Vijay Narayan’s submission that the petitioner company, which had not even submitted its bid for the project, had no locus standi to question to the tender process especially when the board was yet to finalise the tender in favour of five bidders who had been shortlisted for award of the contract.
