The Carbon Zero Challenge (CZC) exhibition on Wednesday showcased a number of interesting products developed by students and entrepreneurs in the city.
The CZC, which is an initiative of the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, was held to celebrate World Environment Day. It had 20 finalists demonstrating their prototypes for schoolchildren and the public.
The competition, supported by Virtusa Corporation, was divided into five themes — transportation, industries, urban areas, water and waste management, and agriculture and forestry.
Students at the exhibition were drawn to various electric mobile technology being developed and waiting to be patented.
The InGo Tron, which is an improvised version of a kid scooter, could be an answer to those finding it difficult to establish the last mile connectivity.
The easily foldable, smart and sustainable mobike on a single charge could travel for 20 km.
The students of KCG College of Technology have developed a remote-controlled all terrain electric vehicle which could help in various farming activities and aims to be a replacement for tractors.
Similarly a team named GITA of IIT-M has developed an electric cycle which could be interchanged seamlessly between pedalling and acceleration.
A student, presenting the demo of the e-cycle, said that while using the acceleration (power-on-demand) mode, it could travel for 50 km and under pedal-assist, it would easily touch 100 km.
Other innovative products at the exhibition included vertical farming technique, inspection and cleaning of septic tank, smart drip irrigation, safe water technology, and solar water heaters using various membrane materials.
The exhibition held at the ICSR will be open for students on Thursday (from 9 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.) and Friday (9 a.m. to noon).
