June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - CHENNAI:

A thief who allegedly targeted small cars of Maruti Suzuki was nabbed by the public while he attempted to speed away in a stolen car in Saligramam a few days ago.

Police have seized three cars from the suspect.

Police sources said Rajamanickam (26) from Mogappair had stolen cars parked outside houses in Vadapalani, Virugambakkam and Valasaravakkam and had been operating for nearly six months.

He worked at a car servicing facility in Chennai before switching to a life of crime and had a fancy for small Maruti cars.

He managed to steal 10 cars and illegally sold them to dealers, often after striping them down to spare parts. However, police managed to recover three cars he had fled with.

Rajamanickam fell into the police net after members of the public nabbed him on Saturday night while he attempted to break open a small car parked outside a house in Saligramam, sources added.
