Call-taxi driver assaulted, robbed

A call-taxi driver was assaulted and robbed by two persons on the 100-Feet Road near Arumbakkam on Saturday. The police have nabbed one person based on a video of the attack, now being widely shared on message-sharing platforms.

The video shows a driver, identified as Tamil Selvan, 35, being stopped by two persons beneath the flyover near Arumbakkam.

The incident was recorded by a person and the clip was handed over to Tamil Selvan. The two asked Mr. Selvan for a ride, but when he refused saying the booking had to be made through the mobile app, they started arguing. They assaulted him when he tried to contact the police.

“The two snatched his mobile phone and wallet containing ₹6,000,” said a police officer. Mr. Selvan lodged a complaint.

“We have arrested Surya, a construction labourer,” said the police officer.
