Call for curriculum on peace education

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, on Monday stressed the need for framing a curriculum on peace education to be introduced in school and colleges in the country.

He was delivering a lecture on “Religious harmony and secularism within the framework of constitutional values and the law,” under the auspices of the Madras Bar Association.

Today, to live in peace had become a challenge owing to the turbulent situation created by globalisation, terrorism, religious disharmony, communalism as a political mobilisation strategy, economic stratification and the caste system.

Consultations should be held with scholars, teachers, legal experts and secular and progressive public intellectuals to identify the areas and issues that needed to be covered by peace education.
