By March 2014, Aavin to get more processing facilities

With two new plants, processing capacity will be augmented by 3 lakh litres a day

Work to establish Aavin’s Thiruvannamalai dairy will be completed by March next year, minister for dairy development V. Moorthy has said. The new plant will process 2 lakh litres of milk and 2 tonnes of milk powder a day.

The minister, speaking at the closing ceremony of the 42nd Indian Dairy Industry Conference recently, said another dairy at Kakkalur in Tiruvallur district that was being upgraded to process one lakh litres would also be ready by March.

“With the commissioning of these two plants, Aavin’s processing capacity will be augmented by 3 lakh litres a day. Presently, Aavin can process 30 lakh litres of milk and 70 tonnes of milk powder per day,” Mr. Moorthy said.

Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation chairman A. Miller, Aavin managing director Sunil Paliwal, Indian Dairy Association president N.R. Bhasin, Association South Zone chairman S. Kulkarni, IDA State president N. Balaraman and former vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University R. Prabhakaran were present on the occasion.
