Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will launch 4G services in 15 locations in six months.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, N. Poonguzhali, chief general manager, BSNL, Tamil Nadu circle, said they have reduced tariff for various mobile phone schemes to compete with private players.
The launch of 4G services would add more mobile subscribers to the network.
At present, there are 76 lakh mobile subscribers in the State, she said. BSNL suffered a slight dip in daily revenue in the mobile sector in April due to free wi-fi services offered by private telecom operators.
Dip in revenue
The usual monthly revenue of approximately ₹60 crore dipped to ₹58 crore in April. With new plans and better broadband speed, BSNL expects to add more subscribers, Ms. Poonguzhali said. “We have registered a 4% increase in overall revenue from ₹2,070 crore earned during the last fiscal,” she added. BSNL, TN circle has 10.8 lakh landline customers now.
While about 1.25 lakh customers are added every year, nearly 70% of them surrender the lines the same year, she said.
