A 10-year-old boy was found dead in a 20-foot pit at a construction site in Kattuppakkam near Porur on Saturday. Police suspect he might have accidentally fallen into the pit and drowned.

Police said Manikandan, a resident of Thiruveedhi Amman Koil Street, Kattuppakkam, was a student of a government school nearby.

On Friday he went to school but didn't return. His parents searched for him throughout the night but couldn't locate him. His backpack was found in the school.

Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Manikandan's body was found floating in a pit in the corner of an apartment construction site next to his school, sources added.
