Over 20,000 police personnel donated blood at 89 camps across the State on Friday.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam along with other Cabinet ministers inaugurated the mega event at Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and Director General of Police T.K .Rajendran were present.

According to K. Senthilraj, director of Tamilnadu State Aids Control Society, the State requires 8 lakh units of blood per year. Fifty percent of the blood was collected through 89 government blood banks, while the rest came from private banks. A total of 2,000 police personnel donated blood in Chennai.

Appreciating the police for the gesture, Health Minister C.Vijaya Bhaskar said the State requires 33,000 to 35,000 units of blood every month. “We have the capacity to collect and store 60,000 units in 89 blood banks.”
