The 13th edition of the Bharat Sangeet Utsav will get underway at Narada Gana Sabha at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday with its formal inauguration by Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The event, which is being organised by Carnatica and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, is open to all rasikas and will be on till November 8.

Carnatica founder K.N. Shashikiran told presspersons here on Saturday that the concerts were being held in aid of Vidya Sagar for persons with multiple disabilities.

“Persons who are particular about seating can pay for the tickets and the proceeds will go to Vidya Sagar,” he said.

On the inaugural day, Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam, along with 300 children, will present Vande Mataram.

Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghunathan said the choice of programmes during the Bharat Sangeet Utsav was different.

Her concert at 6.30 p.m. on November 7, along with Maximum Media creative head Subhasree Thanikachalam, will be a sing-along where the audience can join in.

Ms. Thanikachalam said that on November 4, at 7 p.m., she will be presenting a tribute to former Chief Minister and actor MGR through music, dance and drama.

The festival will feature Sanjay Subramanian (November 3), T.M. Krishna (November 5) and Ranjani-Gayathri (November 4).

Film director Vasanth, Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha secretary M. Krishnamurthy and Vidya Sagar’s Siddharth Jayakumar were present.
