Plea to remove barricade

Residents complain that they are now taking a detour of nearly a kilometre to reach Adambakkam

Residents of Nanganallur have requested the Greater Chennai Traffic Police to regulate traffic movement at the intersection of Medavakkam Main Road and Southern Sector Inner Ring Road, Adambakkam-Vanuvampet. They demand that the barricade on Inner Ring Road, near Vanuvampet, be removed.

The intersection was barricaded following the extension work of MRTS (phase II-B between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount) on the Inner Ring Road.

“The work was completed before six months ago, yet the barricade was not removed. As a result, motorists proceeding towards Adambakkam, from Vanuvampet, have to take a detour on Inner Ring Road for more than a kilometre and take a U-turn at the intersection of Inner Ring Road and 45th Street, Thillai Ganga Nagar, Nanganallur,” says V. Rama Rao, project director, Traffic and Transportation Forum.

To reach Adambakkam and the western side of Inner Ring Road from Vanuvampet, pedestrians have to walk till the intersection of Thillai Ganga Nagar intersection.

To avoid taking a detour, undisciplined motorists coming from Vanuvampet come in the wrong direction. They negotiate the eastern side of Inner Ring Road, disrupting free flow of traffic between Velachery and Vanuvampet.

“There are no concrete pillars obstructing right turn from Inner Ring Road, towards Vanuvampet. Besides, there is even enough space for vehicles to take a right- and U-turn towards Thillai Ganga Nagar,” say motorists.
