As a prelude to the two-day nation wide bank employees strike on January 20 and 21, a mass rally and demonstration was held in Anna Salai on Friday, in which about 1,000 employees took part.

All India Bank Employees Association general secretary C.H.Venkatachalam said that the demonstration was held in Chennai and in other parts of the country to express their protest against Indian Banks Association's (IBA's) offer of five per cent increase in salary, which was inadequate.

“If IBA increases its offer, then we will reconsider our decision about the strike. Meanwhile all the trade union representatives will take part in the conciliation meeting to be held in New Delhi on Monday to urge upon IBA to improve its offer. Further course of action will be decided on Monday,” he said.
