Creating awareness on non-communicable diseases (NCD) is the need of the hour, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said on Wednesday.

“Globally, 15 million persons die prematurely from NCDs, with over 85% deaths occurring in low and middle-income countries. NCDs kill 10 persons every second in India,” he said, shortly after launching a mobile clinic — a collaborative effort of Samsung India Electronics and Apollo Hospitals to provide access to preventive healthcare against NCDs to the underprivileged.

Prathap C. Reddy, executive chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, stressed the need for persons to feel it necessary to know their health status. The Samsung-Apollo Mobile Health Clinic is equipped with facilities to screen for NCDs. It includes equipment for ECG, ECHO, mammography and ultrasound.

Jae Young Yang, managing director, Samsung Manufacturing Plant, Chennai; Sangita Reddy, joint managing director of Apollo Hospitals; and Shivakumar Pattabhiram, chief executive officer of the hospitals, spoke.
