Awareness camp on EPFO initiatives

May 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - CHENNAI:

In an attempt to reach out to the public at their doorstep, Office of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Tambaram and Puducherry, on Saturday conducted a ‘PF Aapke Dwar’ (EPFO at your doorsteps) programme at Chromepet.

Under the programme both employer and employees were allowed to learn about the latest initiatives taken by EPFO, including tax deducted at source in respect of withdrawal more than or equal to Rs. 30,000 and within five years of service.

New rule

This new rule would take effect from June 1, 2015. A gazette notification was issued recently, which stipulates that form 15G/15H along with PAN number should be produced by members for avoidance of tax deductions on withdrawals. According to the new notification, if PAN number alone is furnished the deduction will be at 10 per cent else deduction will be 34.60 per cent.

Regional Provident Commissioner (Grade-1) Tambaram, M. Madhiazhagan gave a detailed account of the recent notifications and clarified the doubts raised by the participants.

A power-point presentation was made on the occasion and in an interactive session that followed many participants raised questions on the various issues related to PF contribution and rules that govern the administration of PF. Assistant PF Commissioner, K. Balasubramanian, and K. Sundararaman AD (IS) were among other officials who took part.
