Auto drivers protest over man’s death

September 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

A large number of autorickshaw drivers gathered at Perungalathur on Monday afternoon to protest over the death of a driver who was killed in an altercation in the same area. The protestors demanded the police to investigate the case. The gathering, however, dispersed after police officials gave their assurance to probe the death and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police sources said Yonus (33), an auto driver in Perungalathur, got into an argument with some of his colleagues on August 31. The altercation deteriorated to a free for all, and in the melee, Yonus was severely injured. He was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for treatment. However, Yonus succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
