An autorickshaw driver and his family members on Monday attempted suicide in front of the office of the Commissioner of Police, seeking criminal action against doctors who gave wrong treatment to their son.

Baskar, 48, of Valasaravakkam and his wife Nalayini, accompanied by their ailing son Selvakumar, doused themselves with petrol and tried to set themselves ablaze. Police personnel on duty stopped them.

They were given counselling and advised to lodge a complaint in the police station. Those with suicidal thoughts can contact the State’s health helpline 104 or Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050 for counselling.
