The speed-breakers at the intersection of Mudichur Road, Mudichur service lane and Kakkan Street, West Tambaram, leave much to be desired. Residents have requested the State Highways Department to lay the speed-breakers at this intersection and also on the eastern side of Mudichur Road. Years ago, the State Highways laid synthetic speed-breakers at the intersection and on the eastern side of Mudichur Road. Over a period, the speed-breakers were damaged. “The stretch witnesses continuous flow of traffic through the day and during rush hour, chaos and congestion are common at the intersection. Crossing the eastern side of Mudichur Road is a nightmare for pedestrians as motorists coming from Tambaram flyover speed and overtake. At times, pedestrians dart across the road, to the dismay of motorists who are forced to slam on the brakes,” says N. Kumar, a resident of West Tambaram.

Stone barricades have been placed at the centre of the arterial road in such a way that only one person can cross the road at a time. Besides, motorists coming from Tambaram flyover cannot take a right turn towards Kakkan Salai. As a result, motorists coming from Grand Southern Trunk Road come in the wrong direction and enter Kakkan Salai, unmindful of the consequences. Pedestrians say barricades must be removed and speed-breakers laid to help them cross the road safely.
